Setting goals For Content Creation
Have you ever thought about what you want to be doing with your content? Do you have a clear path planned for your content? Do you know what you want to achieve?
To succeed in content creation, you must set goals. You can’t simply say I want to be successful and expect it to happen. Goal setting allows us to take control of our content and track our progress.
You have probably heard of SMART goals already but do you always apply the rule? Goals have to be powerful and focused on your main objective. Let’s go over how to create a SMART goal.
Make Specific goals that are clear and well defined. Make sure it covers what needs to be accomplished, who is responsible for it, and what steps need to be taken to achieve it.
A goal also needs to be Measurable meaning you need to quantify it in order to be able to track your progress and know when you have reached your goal.
Next up in the process is giving yourself a reality check and making sure your goals are realistic and Attainable. Setting unrealistic goals that you have no hope of achieving will only demoralize you.
Goals need to be Relevant to the direction you want to take your content. Keeping goals aligned will allow you to develop focus.
Lastly, set a Time or deadline for your goals. This again allows you to measure and celebrate your achievements. A deadline allows you the sense of urgency to get things done.
Now that we know how to create a goal, let’s talk about some tips.
Write down your goals.
The act of writing them down will make them more tangible and real. As you are writing them, use the word “will” instead of “would like to” or “might”. For Example: “I will create a blog post weekly for a year” vs “I would like to write a blog post per week for the next year”. The first statement has power and you can see yourself doing it. The second one lacks passion and gives you an excuse if you get sidetracked.
Create an Action plan.
Something that is often missed in the process of making goals is creating an action plan. We often get so focused on the outcome we want to achieve that we forget to plan all the steps that are needed along the way. By writing down the individual steps and goals, you can then cross them off your list as you complete them and you’ll be able to see that you are making progress towards your ultimate goal.
Above all remember that goal setting is an ongoing activity. Build-in reminders to keep yourself on track. Review your goals regularly. Your end destination can remain quite similar but the action plan you set can change significantly along the way. You will try new things and some will fail and some will succeed. Don’t give up and stick with it.
